SKETCH

Who are we and what do we do?

We are an online learning platform focusing on improving arts education at secondary school level. Improving your creative skillset can be done both inside and outside the classroom, which is why having meaningful and accessible arts resources is very important. We offer online written workshops, videos and e-resources produced by artists to supplement young people's visual arts education. All of these resources aim to challenge your current creative skillset and improve on how you use materials, mediums and hopefully how you look at an object and translate it onto a surface.

Each online workshop is designed for you to do at home, where you can experiment with new mediums, ideas, concepts and subject matter. This is a fantastic method of expanding on your creative abilities in a way that is manageable and at your own pace.

Each workshop, e-resource and video are formulated by an artist and are designed to challenge you creatively. They are aimed for KS3 and able, but anyone could give them a try. The resources are unconventional, because they aim to teach from an artists perspective, rather than that of a teacher. It is as if you are going to an artist run workshop or event. This gives you more freedom to try new things and get direct experience from a working professional.

OUR AIM

In light of ongoing news about the state of arts education in the UK, and specifically in secondary education, we believe every young person has the right to a meaningful arts education that helps promote creativity and  creative mind. It has been said that

"according to figures from the Cultural Learning Alliance, there has been a 10 per cent decline in pupils taking arts subjects at GCSE between 2017 and 2018, and since 2010 numbers are down 35 per cent. There has also been a continuing decline in uptake of arts A levels in England – down 24 per cent since 2010" (Parr, 2020)

which indicates that the consistent cuts, lack of priority and the emphasis on academia is influencing student choices and thus the amount of arts education they receive.

This is why it is our aim to:

- Provide meaningful arts resources to young people for their use both in or out of school to help them supplement their own learning in visual arts in the instance where they may not be getting enough help, support or contact time at school.

- Allow artists to become immersed in education through documenting their processes, tips, tricks and tools. This benefits both artist and student because young people are able to learn from a creative working professional and the artist can promote their work and processes to a wider audience.

We believe creative education matters, and the involvement of creative professionals within that is valuable to the development of young people across all of their studies.

UNDERSTANDING PERSPECTIVE

Perspective can be a daunting and confusing part of drawing. How can I get something to look three dimensional on a surface that is two dimensional?

This workshop will help you to understand the use of 1, 2 and 3 point perspective from an artist's way of using it. From cube tasks to full building drawings, you will begin how to identify, use and produce drawings that are in perspective. This is a challenging 3-part workshop but it will help unlock understanding about how best to use perspective in your artwork.

DRAWING SKILLS

Developing your drawing skills is a great way to see improvements in your artwork. The way you use, apply and combine mediums together can make huge differences to the outcomes of your drawings.

This workshop will help you understand, apply and develop new ways of drawing using a range of mediums. Starting from the very beginning with a simple mark making sheet to ultimately following along with the artist to produce a large scale drawing. You will be able to test your skills at your own pace.
